Song of Elizabeth to Mary
c. 5 B.C.
Luke 1:45
Luk 1:45
And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.as I read it, implies that the birth of Jesus depended in or to some extent upon Mary's belief.
If her reaction to the message from the angel had been "get out of here with your foolishness", would that have queered the deal? I would think so. We all have free will. Mary did have a choice, otherwise why "blessed is she that believed"?
Also how does the extent of her belief at this time reconcile with its extent thirty some years later in the event where she and her other children seek audience with Jesus and don't come up to snuff?
Luk 8:19
Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press.Luk 8:20
And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.Luk 8:21
And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.
Luk 1:39 And Mary arose in
those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda;
Luk 1:40 And entered into
the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth.
Luk 1:41 And it came to
pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her
womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
Luk 1:42 And she spake out
with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy
womb.
Luk 1:43 And whence is this to me, that
the mother of my Lord should come to me?
Luk 1:44 For, lo, as soon
as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb
for joy.
Luk 1:45 And blessed is she that
believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her
from the Lord.
