Peter Takes Step Forward - Sees Jesus as The Christ

From the way Matthew words it, I take it Jesus never before went so far with his disciples in explaining his divinity.
He had up to now been content if they or anyone (excepting the Samaritan woman and Nicodemus) took him for a prophet. Even now he wants the disciples to keep quiet the fact that he is "The Christ, The Son of The Living God". I take that to mean he is not just "Son of David" or equal to the prophets but equal to God.
Yet to be announced is his sacrifice on the cross.
