Well, how many times was that cock supposed to crow, once or twice?

Of course if Peter denies Jesus three time before the first crowing, he will have denied him before all crowing thereafter.  So I guess scripture is consistent either way.

And what's this business about take up a purse, take up a scrip (food bag?), take up (buy?) a sword??

They were told in the Sermon on the Mount in the get-a-way message to their missionary trip they weren't to concern themselves with such worldly items - God would supply. 

Now what? God will no longer supply?

That would seem rather strange since they were to be given some very special powers in the Great Commission.

Act 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Joh 13:38 Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.
