Mockery by Roman Soldiers
Spring A. D. 30
Friday
Jerusalem
Nothing about a severe scourging here; just a spitting in the face and a smote on the head with a reed.
If Jesus had already undergone the whipping as in the current movie, it would be strange that the soldiers would soil a scarlet (purple??) robe on him at this time.
No, I have to believe they took no interest in making his suffering severe.
Looks like there are three different versions of when this event of the gorgeous robe took place. Matthew and Mark say just before Jesus is led to the cross, Luke says by Herod's men, John says before his second appearance before Pilate.
It is a stretch to think it happened three different times.
