The Leaven - Matthew

Mat 13:10  And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?

Mat 13:11  He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

Mat 13:33  Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

Key words:

Leaven = doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees  (Mat 16:12) (Mat 23:13)

Woman = One easily led into idolatry (Jer 7:18)

hid in three measures of meal = Allowed in a little sin (1 Cor 5:6-8)

In other words:

Beware of sin and false doctrine in the church.  Its nature is to grow.

Scriptural references:

Mat 16:12  Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

Mat 23:13  But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

Jer 7:18  The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.

1Co 5:6  Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

1Co 5:7  Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

1Co 5:8  Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

"The two people walking represents "The Leaven". I think in this picture it shows the similarities (which is represented in the patterns of the clothes) but the differences in morals by the mans dark face and dark mood (sin). I think the woman represents a person trying to protect herself of sin and and corruption by looking the other way. Woman = One easily led into idolatry (Jer 7:18)
Also the fence in the background represents the connection between two paths but also the wall between good and evil. The tree for me is the most significant part because it represents God through nature and by showing each branch going in separate ways signifies the difference in human choices".
