Joh 1:30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. Joh 1:31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. Joh 1:32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. Joh 1:33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. Joh 3:4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Joh 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Joh 3:13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. Joh 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: Joh 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. Main Event #5 Jesus begins training His apostles

Now Jesus begins His training program for the twelve chosen ones.

First He tells them the blessings they will receive if they come to their mission of service with proper attitudes.  (Mat 5:1-12 The Beatitudes)

Next He tells them to be like Him in sacrifice and light.  (Mat 5:13-16 The Similitudes)

Then He cautions them that they will be required to live lives of exemplary testimony.  They will have to go above and beyond  the requirements given to them by Moses in the Ten  Commandments, specially in the areas of murder, adultery, divorce, oaths, retaliation, and love.  (Mat 5:17- 48)

Next He outlines what will be required in their spiritual acts of obedience to God in almsgiving, prayer, fasting, wealth, and judging.  (Mat 6:1-7:6)

Then, after laying down all these very strict rules of conduct for his close servants, He gives them some very encouraging news.  Their Heavenly Father will be with them at all times to supply their needs and give success in their mission.  (Mat 7:7-11)

Finely, He sums up this first training session by telling His chosen apostles that there will be opposition but the path He has set them on is the only one to true success.  (Mat 7:12-29)

Luk 6:20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.

Mat 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

Mat 7:29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

The Parable "Candle Under a Bushel": If you disciples are wondering why you received such strict instructions in righteousness in “The Sermon on the Mount”, it’s because you will be Jesus’ surrogates here on earth.  People will judge Jesus and his creditability by your actions.

The Parable "A Wise Man Builds on a Rock": Jesus told this parable to his disciples as part of his “Sermon on the Mount”.  It is basically instructions in conduct for those who enlist in his elite band of apostles and disciples.  The penalty for sloth in following these instructions is quite severe - eternity separated from God.

Mat 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Mat 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Joh 14:4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

Joh 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. Joh 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Joh 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. Joh 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

Joh 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
