was
good for food, and that it was

husband with her; and he did eat.

truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.

bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God,
said she,
hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.

born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the
name of the LORD.

was
not; for God took him.

covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy
wife, and thy sons' wives with thee.

his wife, and his sons' wives with him:

is evil from
his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I
have done.

Gen 10:21 Unto Shem also, the father of all the
children of Eber, the brother of Japheth the elder, even to him were
children

from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they
dwelt there.
Gen 11:3 And they said one to another, Go to,
let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for
stone, and slime had they for morter.
2. Rebellion at the Tower ...............11:4
Gen 11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us
a city and a tower, whose top
may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a
name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
3. Judgment on All the Family Lines
11:5—9
Gen 11:6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people
is
one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now
nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
Gen 11:7 Go to, let us go down, and there
confound their language, that they may not understand one another's
speech.

thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the
city.

house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
Gen 12:2 And I will make of thee a great
nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt
be a blessing:
Gen 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee,
and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the
earth be blessed.
Gen 12:5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot
his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and
the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into
the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.

to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.
c. Abram Rescues Lot ..................14:1—16

brother was taken captive, he armed his trained
servants,
born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued

goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and
the women also, and the people.

Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself.
Gen 14:22 And Abram said to the king of
Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God,
the possessor of heaven and earth,
Gen 14:23 That I will not
take
from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any
thing that is
thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:

hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.

came
unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall
come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.
b. A Carnal Plan for Children..... 16:1-16

now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in
unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram
hearkened to the voice of Sarai.
4. Institution of the Covenant:
Circumcision
17:1—27
Gen 17:1 And when Abram was ninety years
old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I
am the
Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
Gen 17:9 And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt
keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their
generations.
Gen 17:10 This
is my
covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after
thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.
5. Testing of the Covenant .........................18:1—20:18
a. Sarah’s Faith Is Tested
18:1-15

in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of
the day;
Gen 18:10 And he said, I will certainly
return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy
wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard
it in
the tent door, which was
behind him.
Gen 18:12 Therefore Sarah laughed within
herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord
being old also?
Gen 18:13 And the LORD said unto Abraham,
Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child,
which am old?
Gen 18:14 Is any thing too hard for the
LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to
the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.
Gen 18:15 Then Sarah denied, saying, I
laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst
laugh.
b. Abraham’s Faith Is Tested ...
18:16—33
Gen 18:17 And the LORD said, Shall I hide
from Abraham that thing which I do;
Gen 18:20 And the LORD said, Because the
cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very
grievous;

whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which
is come unto me; and if not, I will know.

and Gomorrah

wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father;
and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
Gen 19:35 And they made their father drink
wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and
he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
Gen 19:36 Thus were both the daughters of
Lot with child by their father.
e. The Test of Abimelech

thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur,
and sojourned in Gerar.
Gen 20:2 And Abraham said of Sarah his
wife, She is
my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.
Gen 20:3 But God came to Abimelech in a
dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou
art but
a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she
is a
man's wife.
Gen 20:17 So Abraham prayed unto God: and
God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they
bare children.
Gen 20:18 For the LORD had fast closed up
all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham's
wife.

thine only son
Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and
offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which
I will tell thee of.

hand, and took the knife to slay his son.
Gen 22:11 And the angel of the LORD called
unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said,
Here am
I.

LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt
not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites,
among whom I dwell:
Gen 24:4 But thou shalt go unto my country,
and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac.
Gen 24:8 And if the woman will not be
willing to follow thee, then thou shalt be clear from this my oath:
only bring not my son thither again.
Gen 24:10 And the servant took ten camels
of the camels of his master, and departed; for all the goods of his
master were
in his hand: and he arose, and went to Mesopotamia, unto the city of
Nahor.
Gen 24:12 And he said, O LORD God of my
master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and shew
kindness unto my master Abraham.
Gen 24:48 And I bowed down my head, and
worshipped the LORD, and blessed the LORD God of my master Abraham,
which had led me in the right way to take my master's brother's
daughter unto his son.
Gen 24:67 And Isaac brought her into his
mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and
he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother's
death.

be so, why
am I thus?
And she went to enquire of the LORD.

nations are
in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy
bowels; and the one
people shall be stronger than
the other people; and the elder shall serve
the younger.
Gen 25:24 And when her days to be delivered
were fulfilled, behold, there
were twins in her womb.
Gen 25:25 And the first came out red, all over
like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.
Gen 25:26 And after that came his brother out,
and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob:
and Isaac was
threescore years old when she bare them.
B. The Failure of Isaac
26:1-33

land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac
went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar.

Gen 26:7 And the men of the place asked
him of his

men of the place should kill me for Rebekah; because she
was fair to
look upon.

is Jacob's
voice, but the hands are
the hands of Esau.
Gen 27:23 And he discerned him not, because his
hands were hairy, as his brother Esau's hands: so he blessed him.
Gen 27:24 And he said,
Art thou my
very son Esau? And he said, I
am.
Gen 27:27 And he came near, and kissed him: and
he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the
smell of my son is
as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed:
Gen 27:28 Therefore God give thee of the dew of
heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:
Gen 27:29 Let people serve thee, and nations
bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons

it, and said, I am
the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land
whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;
Gen 28:14 And thy seed shall be as the dust
of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the
east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy
seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
Gen 28:15 And, behold, I
am with
thee, and will keep thee in all
places
whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I

me my
wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and let me go:
for thou knowest my service which I have done thee.
